Don’t let seasonal allergies prevent you from enjoying this beautiful weather!

Yikes! It’s that time of year again, and we don’t mean spring! It’s time for itchy, watery eyes and stuffy noses. It’s time for sneezing and difficulty breathing through your nose. It is allergy season! If allergies are something you battle every year, it is time you get your symptoms under control. Our allergy specialists, Dr. Roula Daher and Dr. John Bernick, are here to help.

Do you experience red, itchy, watery eyes?

If you are constantly dealing with watery, red eyes or find yourself rubbing your eyes all day due to allergies, an over-the-counter antihistamine pill may provide you with relief. Antihistamines can be a great way to reduce stuffy noses and sneezing as well.

Do you have nasal congestion?

Nasal congestion is another common symptom of allergies and one that can be extremely uncomfortable. While a stuffy nose can certainly be caused by multiple conditions, if you find that it is not resolved within two weeks then you could be dealing with allergies. Luckily, there are over the counter nasal sprays and oral decongestants that can reduce nasal congestion and make it easier to smell those spring flowers.

Are you wheezing?

Wheezing, a whistling noise that comes from one’s chest, is a common symptom of asthma and requires medical attention. If your doctor determines that you do have asthma, there are medications to reduce asthma attacks and to get your symptoms under control.

When to See a Professional

There comes a time when at-home care just is not enough to treat seasonal allergies. If you feel that your symptoms are chronic, severe, or not responding to over-the-counter medications, then it is time to see a specialist. Dr. Daher and Dr. Bernick will guide you through the process- starting with testing to determine what specific allergies you have, allergen avoidance measures, prescription medications, and finally, allergen immunotherapy (allergy shots) for those with severe symptoms that are refractory to other measures.

Everyone should be able to enjoy being outdoors and the beautiful weather without allergies getting in the way. If you are having trouble finding ways to alleviate your allergy symptoms, then it is time to reach out to our expert team at Allergy Associates of Dearborn.
